Hi, Sorry for writing this in English but this is the only forum related to NS-2502 and unfortunately I don't speak Polish. So my question is: is it possible to change the actual Bit Torrent client which it doesn't work properly with another one? If it's possible how it can be replaced (I mean for a non-Linux aware person ) I am very close to return this product as I am disappointed about it's performances, the speed transfer is low (4-5 MBits/s), the bittorrent it doesn't work (even with the latest firmware 0.72 downloaded from here, on their support site it is not available!), the Download client is not working, and the list can be longer! Yes, it is cheap but if it cannot meet the expectations it will go back. Thanks in advance for any advice, Mihai

Hello Mihai! Try the latest (1.3.6) firmware for Planex mzk-nas02sg: http://www.planex.net/download/nas/mzk-nas02sg.htm. Basically the hardware for those 2 products (both Edimax and Planex) is the same, so the firmware fits just perfect. But the one for Planex is much better, and first of all - the bittorrent client works 1000% better:) After downloading firmware simply unpack it and you'll have 2 files - first (bigger) is firmware, second is bittorrent client installed after firmware upgrade from bittorrent menu in WEBUI. Good luck! Pozdro600!

It will improve also the network speed? I already bought an Gigabit Wireless router from Edimax in order to get high speeds over my home network but I was disppointed to see how slow is NS-2502. I was very closed to return it until I found that great forum and I realize there is hope for us ! Thanks, Mihai

About the speed - I didn't really test the speeds before and after (or even just after;) but when connected to gigabit switch/router/computer interface I think the speeds could be just fine:) Wait wait... there's one thing I've noticed that could be connected to speed issue - my HD movies from NAS sometimes plays really crapy:/
Anyway - please give us a feedback after testing that issue. I thought about buying a gigabit switch/router but I need to know if it's worth buying after all:)

I thought about buying a gigabit switch/router but I need to know if it's worth buying after all:) Hi guys, I've upgraded my NAS firmware with the new one suggested by you and you've been so ritht! Everything works great now, including the BitTorrent client (I have a problem with one of the sites where I am member, I cannot download anything from there, for there rest of the usual sites it works ok). THe interface response speed has increased a lot, also the network speed is slighty higher with the 10/100 old router (this will be changed with the Gigabit one next week when I will switch from the actual ADSL ISP to the optic fiber one with a 50Mbit/s speed!). So far I'm really happy and I think this NAS will stay with me for the next period of time thanks to your help guys! Cheers, Mihai

It's me again , everything works ok, except the LEDs that from my point of view are not showing the NAS status. The HDD2 LED is off all the time even in the RAID status is shows OK, instead the USB2 is blinking as the HDD2 LED should do. I don't know if it just a bug, I don't know how to test the HDD2 if it's working normally, it's a pitty that in this firmware the SMART test it is not present as in EDIMAX firmware 0.72 version. The BT works great and tonight I will install the Gigabit wireless router and I will be back with the speed rates (hopefully will be higher!). Cheers, Mihai

Hi! Nice to hear that's everything is ok:) About the LED issue - it's normal because Planex device lacks of STATUS led and it have 2 ethernet ports:) You can check it on the photos at their web page;)

Bad news , since two days ago I have a very strange problem in my network (which made me changing the Edimax router, but I realized later that I was wrong thinking it was damaged!): if I connect my desktop (100MB Ethernet cable) in the same time with the NAS (regardless the laptop connected through the Wi-Fi) everything goes crazy! I mean the router is loosing the Internet connection, also the desktop it cannot recognize the network anymore (I am using Windows 7) and I cannot connect to the rest of the devices through the router. Event I disconnect the power and the DSL link I cannot restore the functionality. The only solution was to write the 0.72 firmware back and now everything is back to normal (even I lost the great BitTorrent client!) and now I have to wait for Edimax to improve their firmware to looks and works like the Planex one

hm... that's really looks very very strange. Have you tried to install fun_plug? After that operation you can have access to the device by SSH and then maybe doing some checking in the system?:) Fell really sad for your problem

Very strange indeed, I am not a newbie in this IT world but this is the first time it happens to me (well, there is always a first time for everything, and I hope the second time will be better !). I will wait for a while to see which company will bring a newer firmware then I will make a decision. For now I preffer to wait because each time I switch to another firmware from another company I have to reformat the hard drives than rebuild the RAID so it's time consuming each time. Thanks to all for help and I keep on eye on this great forum (well, I don't know Polish so I will look only for hyperlinks or attached files !) Cheers, Mihai
